Form King Modellers API — User Guide

The Modellers API lets Form King Web subscribers pull meetings, form, speedmaps, ratings and sectional benchmarks into Excel, scripts or their own models. This page covers how to start, how credits work, and what you may do with the data.

API Terms · API keys & usage · GitHub / OpenAPI spec · API FAQ

1. Getting started

  1. Have an active Form King Web subscription.
  2. Open My Subscriptions → API Keys / Usage.
  3. Generate an API key and accept the current API Terms.
  4. Send that key on every request as the x-api-key header.
  5. You can try calls on the API docs page with your key or the test key FK-TEST-API-KEY.

Excel / spreadsheet path

  1. Call the day index (1 credit):
    GET https://api.formking.com.au/b2c/meetings/date/110926?format=csv
Date is DDMMYY. Earliest date is 010725 (1 July 2025). For the next 7 days use /b2c/meetings/upcoming?format=csv.
  2. Open the CSV in Excel. One row per runner if you leave flatten=entry (the default). Use flatten=race or flatten=meeting for a coarser sheet.
  3. For a form-guide style meeting (5 credits):
    GET https://api.formking.com.au/b2c/meetings/{meetingId}?format=csv
  4. For full career form on one race (2 credits at the default 5 benchmarks):
    GET https://api.formking.com.au/b2c/meetings/{meetingId}/races/{raceId}?format=csv

Leave numBenchmarks off unless you need more than the five most recent benchmarked runs. Leave includeScratchings=false so scratched horses are not fetched or charged.

Script / modeller path

  1. Index the day with upcoming or by-date (1 credit).
  2. Pull race form per race, or meeting summary + speedmaps if you only need guide depth.
  3. Responses over 5 MB return HTTP 307 to a pre-signed S3 URL (valid 6 hours). Follow Location.
  4. Limit: 300 requests per 300 seconds. HTTP 429 if you exceed it.
  5. Do not rebuild the full database with credits. Buy a historical file for back-tests (section 6).

2. Credits — how they work

Credits are the fuel for each API call. You have two balances:

Bundled credits
Included with your Web subscription. Released each month.
Top-up credits
Bought as packs. Never expire.
↓ Each successful call deducts credits ↓
1st — bundled balance
2nd — top-up, only when bundled is 0
  • Monthly plans: unused bundled credits are forfeited at period end.
  • 3 / 6 / 12 month plans: unused bundled credits carry within the term, up to 2× the monthly allowance (Lite 20,000 · Single State Pro 40,000 · Pro 60,000).
  • Top-up credits persist until used, including across a later re-subscribe.
  • HTTP 402 means the request would exceed your remaining balance. Repeated 402 traffic can pause the key.

3. What each call costs

CallCreditsNotes
Upcoming meetings / meetings by date1Index only. Filter with states, grades, statuses.
Meeting summary5Guide-depth meeting: last 12 race form lines, ratings, odds. Lite: ratings capped at last 5.
Meeting speedmaps5All races in the meeting.
Race speedmap1One race.
Race form or horse form, numBenchmarks ≤ 52Full career PastEvent list is included. The five most recent BenchmarkedRun items per runner are free. Default is 5.
Race form or horse form, numBenchmarks > 52 + variable+0.5 per extra BenchmarkedRun returned. Partial totals are rounded up on the response.
Account / usage1Balance, key, usage log.

A BenchmarkedRun is one past run with Form King sectional benchmarks and performance ratings — not “career win %” or a single form-guide column.

Race/horse form cost = 2 + ceil(0.5 × extra BenchmarkedRun items beyond 5 per runner)

  • One runner, 6 benchmarks (1 extra): 2 + ceil(0.5) = 3 credits.
  • Ten runners, 7 benchmarks each (2 extra each): 2 + ceil(0.5 × 20) = 12 credits.
  • At numBenchmarks=10, race form is typically in the 15–50 credit range depending on field size.

Lite does not receive BenchmarkedRun data. Single State Pro only receives it for the nominated state (NSW includes ACT).

4. Tiers and monthly bundled credits

TierPriceBundled / monthBuilt for
Lite$9510,000Excel sheets, shortlists, meeting summaries and speedmaps. No sectional benchmarks.
Single State Pro$16520,000Daily race form and benchmarks in one state.
Pro$26530,000National modelling. Deeper numBenchmarks or every meeting every day will still need top-ups or a historical file.

Australia runs on the order of ~50 meetings / ~350 races a week. Lite at 2 credits per race form is enough to cover the national card many times at shallow depth. Pro at default 5 benchmarks can cover a national daily book; a 10-benchmark national depth won't fit within the 30k monbthly bundled credit allowance, but a 10-benchmark Single State Pro depth will fit within the 20k monthly credit allowance, when calls are made optimally.

5. Top-up packs

Buy from My Subscriptions. Packs stack into one top-up pool and never expire.

PackCreditsPrice (AUD)Per 1,000
Micro1,000$10.00$10.00
Starter10,000$95.00$9.50
Modeller25,000$212.50$8.50
Professional50,000$400.00$8.00
Data Scientist100,000$750.00$7.50

Use top-ups for carnival weeks or extra depth. Use a historical file for a season back-test — it is cheaper than scraping the same window with credits.

6. Historical data files

Approved current subscribers can buy a historical extract instead of paging the API. TAB professional Australian meetings only. From 1 July 2025. You may keep the extract if your Web subscription lapses, however you'd not be eligible for updates to the breadth of data in your extract. Ts and Cs still apply for personal use and no-third party sharing of data, and these terms outlive your subscription.

  • Meeting / race / runner fields, Neural, EXP + bestOdds per runner, results + SPs
  • Meeting speedmaps
  • Full career form, plus 5 or 10 most recent benchmarked runs
  • Format matches live API to minimise development burden for you

Prices and the point-in-time rules (including trackSpeedVerified) are in the OpenAPI spec. Commercial / Enterprise use is a separate licence — email admin@formking.com.au.

7. If payment fails or you cancel

  • Unpaid renewal: Web + API access pauses. After 7 days without payment, any remaining bundled credits are zeroed. Top-up credits are kept (non-transferrable).
  • You cancel the key / sub: bundled credits end. Top-up credits remain on the account if you return.
  • A pause of the live sub of up to 3 months is treated as continuous for the data-deletion clock in the Terms. We understand that some people participate on a seasonal basis and want to accommodate this.

8. What you can and cannot do

The contract is the API Terms. In plain language:

  • Yes — own betting, own analysis, own Personal Models (weights and code that do not store a copy of our payloads).
  • Yes — tips and your rated prices to clients, with “Powered by Form King”. Do not publish raw form, FK speedmaps, horse profiles or Form King ratings/benchmarks. You may quote occasional and notable Form King WFA ratings in marketing and socials, providing those ratings have been reviewed by us.
  • Yes — commercialise a Personal Model that does not distribute API Data or an FK-sourced feed. You need a written commercial licence to brand a product as Form King or to ship a data product.
  • No — use for a wagering service provider’s business, or handing API Data to a WSP.
  • No — sharing keys or pooling credits.
  • No — bulk-copying the database. That is what files and the Enterprise feed are for. We have a zero tolerance policy on this.
  • After access ends (beyond a 3-month pause): delete caches and extracts within 30 days. Keep Personal Models and any extract file(s) you bought. No-data-sharing terms continue to apply forever.
